Find Your Fruit Day
In one of my
online stories, I related that fruits are man’s first food. Yes, that is what I
and you are supposed to eat by natures design. At a later stage, animals, birds
and fish become part of our meals.
Yet, fruits
have more protective value than these later additions of animals, birds, etc. Do
you ever realize that animals and birds mostly feed on vegetation, grains,
grass and roots? So once a week, you can fix a day in which you eat no animal,
bird or fish; but fruits and greens, not even a convenience food. Just eat
fresh fruits and vegetables for breakfast, super and launch, and as snacks.
In this way,
you will build your immune system against a cold attack.
Fresh fruits
are primary source of vitamin C which protects the body against colds and
environments that cold viruses strive in our body.
Why Vitamin C And Citrus Fruits Are
Important In the Control And Prevention OF Cold
Vitamin C
was first noted in the control and prevention of scurvy by sea faring sailors.
This vitamin was noted as ascorbic acid.
The re-discovery
of this vitamin is a vital factor in the prevention of cold symptoms. It is
this vitamin in limes and other citrus fruits that plays a more serious role in
our discourse. Can vitamin C cure the common cold? This has not yet been verified
by established authority. Of course, other fresh fruits like mangoes, pineapples,
guavas, melons and cucumbers, and fresh vegetables can provide all the vitamin
C our body need. But we are not in a position most of the time to eat a mongo
or guava on rising early. Our fear is that we would get a running tummy. A
glass of lime or lemon juice in which a tablespoonful of honey has been added
on rising can help cleanse our stomach and digestive tract before breakfast. This
also serves as an energizing drink.
It is said
that Professor Linus Pauling was credited with the re-discovery of this vitamin
C. He noted that it lost all its values in food processing and storage; and
recommends an intake of 500 mg to 10,000 mg each day. So, you have to take a
supplement. But you can still get it from natural fresh fruit on a fruit day which
is better. You can increase the quantity and quality of your fruit breakfast to
give you this value by including variety of fruits.
So far, what
we eat affect our bodies. In other words, we are what we eat; and we are what
our bodies taken into our system. As a teenager, I like bananas. But unknown to
me, it give me cold issues. Much later, I know better. A change came into my
diet; and this becomes a plus to my health and well-being. I would squeeze a
grape fruit into a cup of cold water and added a pinch of salt or a cube of sugar
to taste. Then I could eat a banana later any time without experiencing a cold
problem like a running nose.
You should
avoid all mucous forming foods like milk, bananas, white breads and white sugars
during the first few days of an attack.
To keep the
issue always at bare, always have a lime or lemon juice three times in the week
while rising in the morning. Alkaline fruits like semi-ripe mangoes, guavas and
cucumbers should be a regular feature in your diet because these are always available.
What Is Your
Challenge? Preventing a health issue is much better than curing it later.
Virus, like germs have no respect for the human body except it benefits. It is
in this respect that every care should be taken to avoid contacting an
infection. Follow this link to watch a video http://www.discoveryfitandhealth.com/diseases-conditions/videos/common-colds-and-flu-htm

What The Experts Opined
In all
query, expert opinions are always sort for to resolve an issue or dispute.
Below renowned organizations has mandate more than one personal to make a considerable
study and disseminate their findings.
1.
Mayo Clinic on “treatment” of a cold: “There is no cure for the common
cold. Antibiotics are of no use against a cold virus. Over the counter (OTC)
cold preparations won’t cure a cold or make it go away…a cold virus enters your
body through your mouth, eyes or nose.”http://www.mayoclinic.org/disease-condition/commoncold/basics
2. The World Health Organization (WHO)
on:
(i)
Drugs: “Many commercial cough and cold
remedies contain several ingredients including cough suppressants, mucolytics,
oral decongestants and expectants. Most drug combinations in cough and cold
remedies have no rational basis, e.g. ineffective ingredients or ingredients
with opposing effects are often combined, such as an expectant with a cough
suppressant…combination drugs such as those should be avoid.”
“Some combination drugs are justified for use by adults (or school age
children) if they combine effective and safe drug intended to relief two or
more concurrent symptoms of the cold. For young children, however, such a
combination cannot be justified.”
Continuing, “the use of
safe, soothing, home-made remedies for sore throat (this is one effect of a
cold issue-my comment) such as lemon tea should be encouraged.”
(ii)
Traditional cough and cold remedies: “There is no reason to belief that
a safe soothing home-made remedy is less effective than a commercial
remedy…Unlike commercial preparations, which may contain potentially harmful
ingredients, home remedies are harmless…ingredients such as menthols and camphor
may be used in topical preparations to be rubbed on the chest (you can also
made preparations for joint pains with these two ingredients-my comment).
However, these products may be toxin and should not be used in teas and oral
preparations.” http://whqlibdoc.who.int/hq/2001/WHO_FCH_Q0.1.02.pdf
3. National Institute Of Health On:
Treatment: “One reason why there is no cure
for the common cold is that more than 200 different viruses can cause cold
symptoms.”
Continuing
from the same link, “…there is no experimental evidence that exposure to cold
temperatures increases the chances that you will get a cold…On the other hand,
several research studies shows that people that exercise regularly have a
significant reduced number of respiratory tract infection, such as the common
cold, compared with those who don’t exercise. Research also suggests that
allergic diseases that affect the nose or throat and psychological stress may
increase your chance of getting infected by cold viruses.”If any link do not

The common
cold is not literally a cold. It is the effect of an unfriendly and “filterated
virus” in the nasal passage. A glass of warm lime-pineapple juice can ward it
off.
Various
research studies like the Fort Bank with both human and chimpanzee, and Birmingham
tests with school children clearly demonstrated and confirmed that the
causative agent of the common cold is an external living agent or germ that
runs into over 200 viruses. These research and ongoing ones show the need to
prevent disease of all sort from striking via, preventive means. Good health
should not be compromised.
A cold has
no cure. This has been repeated again and again by certified institutions like
the World Health Organization and the Mayo Clinic studies. The National Health
Institution has also added its opinion of no cure for the moment. Home-made
remedies for a cold are recommended by the WHO. Drugs only compound the problem
via, side effects. Complicated case of a cold in adult and all children refer
to a GP.
Always include
lime and all citrus fruits and fresh green vegetables in your diet. Other
fruits that are highly alkaline are excellent to maintain the acid-base balance
of the blood stream. And hence, the tendency to get a cold is very small.
Fruit salads
as pre-breakfast can do one a lot of good, whether one has a cold or not. Just
eat only fruits before the main breakfast which should include lots of fruits
along with whole meal like unpolished rice or home-made brown bread. Further,
maintain a single day in the week to eat only fruits and greens.
More so,
exercise regularly at least three times in the week. Jogging, swimming, brisk
walking are outdoor exercises. Jumping jack and press-ups and down; the squat
and mountain climbing can be done in your sitting or bedroom.
A simple
home remedy for a cold is a dilute lime or lemon juice. Add pineapple juice
plus wild honey to the mix and you have an energizing drink for a relief. The
WHO recommends home-made lemon teas.
Boil a lemon
grass with a cup or glass of water for ten minutes. Allow to cool and add real lime
juice. Your lemon tea is ready.
To your good
health!
